The Western Ghats

Known as the Sahyadri in Maharashtra, the Nilgiri hills in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and the Anaimalai and Cardamom hills in Kerala. Higher and more continuous than the Eastern Ghats — about 1,500 m on average, rising from north to south. Most Peninsular rivers begin here, and the two Ghats meet at the Nilgiri hills.
