Chinggis Khan pursues Jalal ad-Din to the Indus

1221 – present · 📍 Indus river

One wing of Genghis (Chinggis) Khan’s army chased Jalaluddin, son of the Sultan of Khwarazm, into Afghanistan and Sindh. On the banks of the Indus, Genghis Khan thought of returning to Mongolia through north India and Assam, but the heat, the terrain and his shaman’s ill omens changed his mind.

What it led to: Jalal ad-Din escaped across the Indus and Iltutmish refused him asylum.
