Bounded by the Aravali range to the west, 700–1,000 m high and sloping to the north and north-east. They reach as far west as Jaisalmer under sand ridges and barchans. The Rajmahal hills form their eastern extension. Metamorphic rocks — marble, slate, gneiss — tell of their history.
